I really appreciate Alma chapter 17. The beginning of the chapter relates Alma’s chance meeting with his close friends, the sons of Mosiah, after they had been serving the Lord in a missionary capacity among the Lamanites for fourteen years.

Their example to me is so powerful. “…they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were (people) of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God…(and)they had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting; therefore they had the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority of God.”

I feel that though I am weak and have a plethora of character flaws, even I may have the opportunity to gain the same benefits (admitedly to a smaller degree) from searching the scriptures diligently and
partaking of regular fasting and prayer.

“The world is too much with (me).”

Now At The Lake

I can’t figure out how to change the name so it will read “now in the high desert” until I can do it.

Spent a wonderful four hours at camp yesterday afternoon.

I had been so busy but it was very hot and muggy and decided to spend some down time at the lake.
What is it about sultry weather that seems to concentrate the fragrances of nature? Tangy spruce and pine, fruity wild strawberry and sweet clover alternated with the clean lake smell. And then there were all the half notes of warm earth, grass, old wood and forest. A horse fly buzzed around for a while but I think it was too hot for it to bother to bite.

Had a good swim in the warm water and then sat on the point and read and dozed. Absolutely perefect!
